The Static Challenge: Faith-Based Headphone Game for Teens
The Static Challenge: Faith-Based Headphone Game for Teens
Can your team cut through the noise and get the message right?
The Static Challenge is a fast-paced, faith-based guessing game that gets teens laughing, listening, and working together. One player reads a phrase while another tries to figure out what is being said over music or background noise.
The game is fun on its own, but it also creates a natural opening for a meaningful conversation about the “static” that can distract us from God’s truth—including fear, pressure, anger, social media, other people’s opinions, and our own emotions.

How the Game Works
Players divide into teams and take turns serving as the Caller and Listener.
The Caller reads a faith-based phrase card while the Listener wears headphones playing leader-selected music, static, or another appropriate sound. The Listener has up to 60 seconds to guess the phrase correctly.
Players may not use gestures, spell words, point to objects, reword the phrase, or reveal the answer. Teams earn one point for each phrase guessed correctly.
Three Ways to Play
Team Challenge
Teams follow the standard rules and earn one point for every correctly guessed phrase.
Head-to-Head
One pair from each team plays simultaneously. The pair that correctly guesses the most phrases in 60 seconds wins the round.
Silent Static
The Caller silently mouths the phrase while the Listener tries to lip-read it. No sound or gestures are allowed. This provides a lower-sensory option and allows the game to be played without headphones.

Faith Connection
After the game, leaders can use the included Cutting Through the Noise page to help teens connect the activity to real life.
Students will consider what makes God’s truth difficult to hear, what kinds of “static” compete for their attention, and how Scripture, prayer, wise guidance, quiet reflection, and obedience can help them tune in more clearly.
The page includes suggested Scriptures, group discussion questions, and a practical closing challenge.
Designed With Participation and Safety in Mind
All audio should remain at a comfortable, leader-controlled volume. Students should never be pressured to wear headphones.
A student who does not want to use headphones can participate as the Caller, timer, scorekeeper, card manager, referee, or through the Silent Static version of the game.
